Red Flags — How to Audit a Spec Sheet

These are the patterns that signal an unverified document. Each one comes with the question that resolves it, so you can keep a supplier on the shortlist or drop them on evidence rather than instinct.

Two sound values in one document

When marketing text and a specification table disagree, the lower, qualified figure is the one to plan with until a measurement report arrives.

Real case: the SHD / SHDP description states up to 118 dB, while the volume column in the same page's table reads 108–113 dB.

A protection rating with no report

“IP66” alone is a catalogue entry. Ask for the test standard, the test date and the report reference, or treat the rating as unverified for on-deck service.

Resolution: request the ingress-protection document alongside the quotation, not after the order.

No material certificate offered

If a supplier cannot state the stainless grade in writing, the difference between SUS316L and a generic stainless part stays invisible until corrosion appears in service.

Resolution: ask for grade declaration on the protection grid and any wetted or load-bearing part.

Sound claims with no measurement distance

A decibel figure without a stated distance and ambient condition is not comparable between suppliers, and cannot be used to size an alarm for a noisy zone.

Resolution: ask “at what distance, in what background noise, and with which voltage applied?”

Voltage rows that do not match the bulb

In the SHD / SHDP table the AC110 and AC220 rows list a 12V15W bulb while the DC rows list 12V15W G23 15S and 24V15W. Cross-row entries like this need an explicit answer.

Resolution: ask which bulb ships with each voltage row, and whether a transformer is supplied.

The copy-paste specification sheet

Identical layout, identical wording and identical typos across several unrelated “manufacturers” mean the document was never written for the product in front of you.

Resolution: request a model-specific dimensional drawing and a nameplate photo of a unit already produced.
